Critical note: The DS3800NPSL is physically wider (8HP) and not interchangeable with logic power boards (NPSE, NPSK). It is designed for field power distribution only. Hot-swapping is not supported. This board does not supply +5V or ±15V logic power.
Key Features & Advantages
-
High-Voltage Field Power – The DS3800NPSL provides conditioned 125VDC or 250VDC power for solenoid valves, hydraulic actuators, and motor starters, reducing the need for separate field power supplies.
-
Full Isolation – 2.0kV isolation protects sensitive control electronics from field device transients and ground-loop currents.
-
Adjustable Overcurrent Protection – The board includes onboard dip switches and potentiometers for setting current limits (2.5A–5A for 125VDC mode, 1.5A–2.5A for 250VDC mode), allowing customization for specific field device requirements.
-
Auxiliary +24V Control Power – A dedicated 24V/1A output provides power for field-mounted control relays, proximity sensors, or indicator lights, eliminating separate power supplies.
-
Built-in Monitoring – Analog feedback channels provide voltage and current telemetry to the main CPU, enabling remote monitoring of field power health.
-
Fault Indication – The digital fault output triggers external alarms for overcurrent, short-circuit, overtemperature, or undervoltage conditions.
Typical Application Cases
-
Servo Valve Driver Cabinets – Supplies high-voltage power to electro-hydraulic servo valves in gas and steam turbine fuel control systems.
-
Solenoid Valve Panels – Provides conditioned DC power to safety shutdown solenoids, trip valves, and purge valves.
-
Actuator Control Cabinets – Powers electric actuators for inlet guide vanes, bleed valves, or turbine bypass controls.
-
Field Device Distribution Panels – Centralizes high-voltage DC distribution for field instruments in turbine auxiliary skids.
-
Retrofit Power Upgrades – Replaces aging dedicated power supplies in legacy Mark IV installations with a board-integrated solution.

The DS3800NPSL is a specialized field power board that occupies rack space but integrates seamlessly with the Mark IV/V backplane for monitoring and control. It is not a replacement for logic power boards.
Selection Guidelines & Precautions
-
Application Verification – The DS3800NPSL supplies high-voltage field power, not logic power (+5V, ±15V). Verify your application requires 125VDC or 250VDC field power before selecting this board.
-
Physical Compatibility – The DS3800NPSL is 8HP wide, requiring two adjacent empty slots in your Mark IV/V rack. It will not fit in standard 4HP slots.
-
Backplane Compatibility – Uses both P1 and reinforced P2 connectors for high-current output. If your backplane lacks P2, the high-voltage output will be unavailable.
-
Voltage Configuration – Configure the output voltage (125VDC or 250VDC) via onboard jumpers before installation. Incorrect configuration may damage field devices.
-
Current Limit Adjustment – Set the overcurrent protection threshold using the onboard potentiometer (R23) and verify with a load test. The DS3800NPSL should be set to 20% above the maximum expected field device current draw.
-
Grounding – Maintain a single-point ground for the field power return to prevent ground-loop issues. The isolated output allows floating or grounded operation—consult your system’s grounding scheme.
-
Thermal Derating – Full output available up to 50°C:
-
50°C–55°C: derate to 90% of rated current
-
55°C–60°C: derate to 80% of rated current
-
Above 60°C: do not operate
-
-
Spare Sourcing – Production ended in 2010. When purchasing refurbished units, request a load test report verifying output voltage and current at full load. Visually inspect for capacitor bulging, transformer discoloration, or burned traces. Ensure the onboard jumpers and potentiometers are intact and functional.
